3d Modeling
This course takes the students through learning about different 3d modeling techniques using either Maya
or 3ds Max. Texturing and UV mapping are also covered, for a complete final project showcasing several
objects modeled and textured using the 3d software.

Background Design and Layout
Students develop a 3d environment using 3ds Max or Maya, to be used in a future animation, all the way
from concept, to modeling, texturing and lighting. Both exterior and interior settings are developed, to allow
different light settings on the scene.

Material and Lighting / Material and Lighting for Games
Students work with texturing and UV mapping using 3ds Max, Maya and Mudbox tools. Hard surface and
organic texturing is explored. Lighting is added for a variety of looks on the scenes created. In the Material
and Lighting for Games, students use a game engine such as Unreal and Unity, to import/export their 3d

Hard Surface and Organic Modeling
Students create an architectural model, applying materials and lighting to enhance the look. Organic
elements are added and Cloth is explored. Tools include the use of Maya, 3ds Max, Zbrush and Mudbox.

Pre-Portfolio Presentation  for Animation
This is the culmination of the MAA program, where students make a selection of the pieces that will go to
their portfolio and polish them or  create new pieces that reflect their area of strength.

Portfolio Presentation for Animation
Students develop a demo-reel, job search documents, and prepare their online web portfolio to start their
job search.

Mapping for Digital Media
The "skin" or finished look to a 3D model is the result of a map, or image created in the computer and
wrapped around the model. These images add detail and realism to objects without adding complexity to
the model. Students will create bitmaps and procedural maps and learn how to apply them to simulate
textures, applied designs, reflections, and other effects.

Digital Audio and Video
Students create a video sequence suitable for a game intro. Sound and video effects are added using
video and audio editing tools.  Photoshop, After Effects, Audition and Premiere are used on this course.

Animation Layout and Scene Design
Students create a short script and develop all model sheets and storyboard to finalize with a complete
package for a game design proposal.  3ds Max and Photoshop are used as the main software for the

Computer 3d Modeling and Animation I / Principles of 3d Modeling
Students learn the basics of 3d modeling in 3ds Max by modeling, texturing and lighting an interior scene.

3d Animation
Students use 3ds Max or Maya to create 3d animations of characters performing a sequence of movements.

Portfolio for 2D Animation
Students develop an online portfolio showcasing their best work, create a resume, business card and
cover letter to prepare for a job interview.

Game Modeling
Students create a low polygon scene, including texturing and lighting. A polygon budget is given to recreate
a real production setting.

Language of Animation and Film
History of 3d animation is studied starting with classics and building up to some interesting projects that
apply principles of 3d animation like the pioneers did.
